This set is important in American numismatics because it contains the first ever reverse proof coin issued by the United States Mint. Collector enthusiasm caused this coin to sell out in minutes and prices soon experienced significant pricing premiums during the next year or so, not unlike a certain Flowing Hair Silver Medal & Gold Coin.
